What is Hot Stone Massage?
During the hot stone massage treatment, smooth volcanic rocks that have been heated in water, are used in two ways.
We will hold the smooth heated stones in my hands and use them to massage you. We will apply grapesed oil to your skin to let the stones glide easily over your body.
We will also place them on your body while we massage other areas. The heat can be both deeply relaxing and help warm up tight muscles so that we can work deeper and quicker.
Some stones are placed on specific energy centres, known as chakras, along your body to align and re-balance its natural energy flow.
The heat of the stones penetrates deep into the muscle tissue allowing them to relax 4-5 times quicker than in a Swedish Massage. This eases muscle tension and re-vitalises the muscle tissue by increasing blood circulation.
The deep relaxation and increased blood flow accelerates any healing processes and creates a state of deep mental relaxation.
During a full body Hot Stone Massage we usually treat your back, legs, abdomen, arms, chest and neck.
What should I do before and after a Hot Stone Massage?
Please tell us if you have any medical conditions before making an appointment. We will ask you to fill out a short questionnaire before the massage, to make sure you don’t have any condition (see below) which means that we can’t treat you.
It's also best to avoid heavy meals and alcohol several hours before your massage. Your massage will last an hour, but please ask if you would like a longer treatment.
All massages can leave you feeling thirsty and needing to go to the toilet more than usual. This is because the massage has got your lymph circulation going and your body is flushing out toxins.
We will give you a glass of water afterwards and allow you to relax or sleep as you drift back into the real world.
Hot Stone Massage has a de-toxifying effect on your body and you can encourage this by drinking plenty of water and avoiding caffeine, nicotine and alcohol for the next 24 hours.
Please also try to avoid any strenuous exercise for 24 hours and try to rest and allow your body to heal.

Are there any reasons why I can't have a Hot Stone Massage?
If you have any of the following conditions you should not have a Hot Stone Massage:
Hypersensitive Skin
Hypertension
Recent burns
Sunburn
Deep vein thrombosis
Cancerous tumors
Myocardial infarction
Pregnancy
Eczema
Rashes
Acne
Psoriasis
Heart conditions
Diabetes
Peripheral Vascular Disease
Uncontrolled Hypertension
Fever
Open Wounds or Skin Lesions
Acute Inflammation
Sternal/Pectoralis stones during lactation
If you have a numb skin due to skin grafting or neuropathy you should be cautious about having this treatment.
If you suffer from thrombosis, have a blood clot or any other cardiovascular disease you should get the permission of your GP before having a Hot Stone Massage.
If you are unable to relax during this treatment please ask for the treatment to stop and we can continue with a different type of massage (Shiatsu, Swedish, Sports) instead.
The Daniel Beauty Difference
You will be treated while lying on the most luxurious and comfortable massage table that we have been able to find. It is electrically-operated; it not only moves up and down but we can also move the "head end" upwards and the "feet end" down.
To keep you warm, the massage table is covered with an electric blanket and we will also cover you with a heavy towel of the finest Egyptian cotton.
The massage table has an easily-cleaned, heavily-padded surface and a face hole that allows you to breathe easily while you are lying face down. We also use an orthopaedic pillow to correct the position of your body.
When you come for an hour's massage, that is exactly what you get: a whole hour of treatment. The massage usually begins with a few Shiatsu Massage pressure points on your back and shoulders, followed by the Swedish Massage treatment (outlined below) and then a short Indian head massage to complete the treatment.
If you visit some therapists, saunas or salons your hour's massage treatment will include 5 minutes at the start for getting undressed and onto the massage table, then another 5 or 10 minutes at the end for you to lie there quietly, come back into the real world and get dressed. Not so with us.
Your appointment consists of a whole hour of massage therapy. So please allow longer than an hour for your appointment, especially if it is your first time when we will ask you to complete a health questionaire.
The Origins of Hot Stone Massage
For hundreds of years, hot stone massage was used by many different cultures. Hot stones, which were warmed by fires, were used by Native Americans to treat aching muscles.
We can thank Mary Nelson, from Tucson, Arizona for its modern day revival. She trademarked her style of hot stone massage, called LaStone Therapy, which has a Native American spiritual component.
Hot Stone Masage is also known as Lava Stone Massage, River Rock Massage or Warm Stone Massage.
